Business Analyst

Business Analyst

Summary

This role will be a starting point for a significant portion of the organisational agenda, as it will look across all aspects of change – IT and otherwise – to ensure that changes are well analysed and documented and that business requirements are captured accurately. In that respect, the role holder will need to work closely with the IT delivery team and across all business functions to understand existing business processes and workflows and the intent of each change, before clearly defining requirements, assessing and mitigating risks and ensuring that all documentation is accurate and delivered in a timely manner.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Gather business requirements by successfully engaging the various stakeholders across the business
  • Facilitate the resolution of issues and / or areas of contention between stakeholders
  • Translate business requirements into functional requirements for technical teams
  • Create required user stories and progress to approval with the relevant stakeholder/s
  • Deliver requirements on time and as per agreed formats
  • Document existing business processes and work flows
  • Develop formats of documents and tools to enable others to follow defined processes in a consistent manner
  • Identify risks and take appropriate actions when risks require escalations
  • Determine interdependencies between tasks and investigate, presenting recommendations for review
  • Analyse processes and data to draw out insights and make recommendations to address business issues
  • Assist in managing the resolution of BAU issues reported to the team, including requirements gathering, scoping the required change/s and completing functional UAT
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders on requirement gathering, testing and approval/s
  • Complete pre and post implementation check lists and reviews
  • Highlight lessons learnt from previous projects and recommend improvements for future projects

Technical Skills / Knowledge

  • A proven track record of having worked in project teams including the business requirements elicitation phase
  • Demonstrable experience in documenting business requirements in accordance with template/s and guidelines
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements to functional requirements and interact with technical teams
  • Possesses a good understanding of IT architecture and engineering
  • Demonstrable experience communicating with and managing stakeholder expectations
  • Experience working with multiple third-party vendors and suppliers
  • Basic understanding of different Project Management methodologies and concepts
  • Ability to design and execute basic UAT programmes

Career Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience performing a Business Analyst role, either agency or client-side, including:
  • Documenting “as is” workflows and system diagrams and changes to same across a range of different platforms including website and CRM
  • Working across multiple business functions to capture and refine requirements
  • Working with a variety of project management approaches, specifically Agile, Scrum, Sprint, Waterfall
  • Working on your own as a single BA resource on a project
